What's the difference between 850nm and 940nm infrared LED illuminators?

To the unaided eye, infrared LEDs at 940 nm are essentially invisible. There is no visible light coming from these LEDs to the naked eye. The majority of infrared night vision cameras can, however, detect the light from these LEDs. While emitting a red glow that may be seen, 850nm LEDs are brighter than 940nm LEDs of the same wattage. This is why an illuminator with 850nm LEDs that is suitable will illuminate significantly better than one with 940nm LEDs. However, due to its invisibility, 940nm is a preferable option if discretion is required. Since it will function in most lighting conditions, this bulb is appropriate for small to medium-sized rooms or if there is a requirement to illuminate a specific area like a desk or doorway fixtures disguising and aiming it is easy.

This bulb or any other IR source 940 or 850nm will not make a non-night vision camera, (as well as a smart phone camera) night vision capable. Day time cameras do not ?see? infrared light.
